For many people, Google is simply a web browser to search, only a tool to find information like images, videos, songs etc. But for marketers and those working on internet, Google is much much more, as it offers a lot of services that help marketers to market their brands, products or any thing through it.

What is the difference between Google Adwords and Adsense?

The Google advertising platform can be seen in many places where we sail and its present in Gmail, YouTube and other affiliated sites is increasing. Surely you know someone who makes money (much or little) thanks to Google ads, but it has never been clear how you operate. Adwords and Adsense are two such services that Google offers. Both are related to the advertising field , causing confusion among newcomers to this world. So, in this article I will explain about these platforms and give you the answer of What is the difference between Google AdWords and Adsense?

What is Google Adwords and how it works?

Google Adwords is the advertising platform for advertisers. It allows brands to create ads or banners directed to a website (yours, usually) or to a presence on social networks. Adwords platform is divided into 2 types:

Search Engine Marketing (SEM) or search engine marketing

Consisting ads that appear when perform a query in the Google search engine; with defined keywords, the aim of this type of advertising is to show the user a relevant ad to what he is googling. Google win to prove itself useful in the search experience and earn the advertiser to receive clicks from users interested in what it offers.

Display Network

Display Network are ads that appear on Google network sites such as Gmail, YouTube and any site or affiliate advertising program Google Ad sense (which I will explain next) application. This type of ad is obviously not respond to the query from a word “search”, but usually appears as the context of the medium: if your mail, video or page you’re viewing, talking about computers, it is very likely that you out an announcement related to that topic.

The network display, in turn, contains two types of ads:

  • Text Ads:

They are basically the same but SEM ads are shown within a block as text. Below 2 examples in Gmail and in a blog:

  • Images Ads:

This can be static or dynamic images (flash or gif). These generally are the most used, because they have a greater visual appeal and allow you to combine multiple messages. For example:

The Adwords system is widely used by companies that want to advertise: the scheme SEM for brands that want conversions for users searching for your products / services, and the Display Network for brands looking to increase their awareness or web presence. Also, the scheme Adwords allows many companies to place ads on high traffic portals and interest, without having to pay for a banner or pattern of full term, though probably not in the best areas of the site. This is possible because in this advertising, pay per click (PPC), per thousand impressions (CPM) or action (CPA), but also depends on the quality of the advert versus the SEO of the page that receives the announcement.

Like any internet marketing scheme, it requires knowledge, monitoring and analytics to optimize campaigns and have a greater return. It is often observed as some brands “burn” or quickly depletes your budget, putting words to overprice or unrelated in SEM, or with a volume of impressions disproportionate to its market.

What is Google Adsense and how it works?

Google Adsense is the advertising platform that pay for media (websites, blogs, apps), placing ads Display Network Google Adwords. With this scheme many website owners can receive income from traffic received, and in some cases, serves as the basis for many online business models, i.e., sites that are supported with the primary goal of staying with Adsense revenue, although I do not recommend it as a technique to a site that has not reached its maturity phase.

Some important points of Google Adsense:

  • Google does not allow you to place more than three ads for each page within a website. Portals pages “long” content are limited by this rule.
  • The formats that bring higher return are: rectangular 728 x 90 (Leader board) and 300 x 250 (or square 250 x 250). In any case, the more at the beginning of the page, the better.
  • You can define which categories of brands or products can advertise on your site, and you can even block certain companies (URL) from which you do not want your ads (for low return or because you oppose the mark).
  • Revenue per click or impression is more determined by the user type and location, that type of business and location of the advertiser.

Overall, the platform Adsense is the best in its class. Many sites use it to have a return ads in that get any brand will sponsor a banner or in some cases, they are used to capitalize on overseas traffic while you show a banner of service to local traffic.

The main advantage of Adsense is that it allows access to a large market of advertisers in a simple way, which for many websites would be impossible otherwise because they do not have the resources to contact and attract brands.

What is the difference between Google Adwords and Adsense?

In simple words, Adwords is for brands and companies that advertise and Adsense is for media who place those ads. Google serves as an intermediary to place these ads and receive a  transaction margin.
